Finally, the day had come to visit the courses we had chosen beforehand. We were allowed to attend any class we wanted and even picked some German lessons. So we went to different courses like marketing, HR-Management statistics, a few German classes, and so on. It was really lovely how the American students and teachers welcomed us and included us in their lessons.
In the German class, we talked about Oktoberfest, our favorite dishes, and the cultural differences between Germany and the U.S., which weren’t always as big as we had expected. A real highlight was that the professor made roasted almonds himself just for us! We especially enjoyed the exchange with the American students. Overall, it was quite interesting to see how university life works over there.
At 12:30 p.m., our activity hour started. For this, we had prepared presentations about German clichés, beer brewing, and studying abroad in Germany. We even got some insider information from Amina, who is studying in Germany as an international student herself. After that, we had some time to discuss with the American students, talking about their expectations and what they think about Germany now. Some of them even told us that they felt much more motivated to learn German after meeting us. After the presentations and lively discussions, we went back to attend a few more classes.
By the end of the day, we all felt a little bit smarter. In the evening, we met at a restaurant with several professors from Old Dominion University and had dinner together.A few of us tried out some fast food restaurants again: this time raising cane´s and crumble cookies. All in all, it was an amazing day full of great conversations and cultural exchange with the American students and professors.
