The day had arrived to leave Norfolk and head back to D.C. By 7 a.m., we were packing up and saying goodbye to what had been our home for the past few days. Before heading out, we stopped at IHOP, a classic American diner with that unmistakable retro aesthetic. The smell of pancakes and fresh coffee filled the air. It felt like the perfect American breakfast to start our road trip. Our first stop was Yorktown, a small cozy town known for being one of the final battle sites of the American Revolution. The streets were peaceful with trees, white houses, and history everywhere. We took a walk by the waterside, snapped a few photos with our big trucks, a tradition for every VAST trip. Before leaving Yorktown, we stopped at a local peanut shop. Virginia is known for its top quality peanuts that no one can resist.
Shortly, we were off to our next stop to grab some burgers and milkshakes. I mean who can say no to that? Between the music, good conversation, and beautiful views, the drive felt light and cheerful, and soon enough.. It was touchdown D.C! It felt really good to finally sit down together, have some snacks, and just relax after a long and tiring day on the road. Later, we went to the mall one final time to pick up some souvenirs to always remember our trip.
For our final night, we decided to go out one last time to a local sports bar. We laughed, had good food, and talked about our favorite memories from the past weeks. Some had fish and chips, others went for burgers or wings, while the big screens played the NFL games in the background. Surrounded by D.C.’s skyline, we took a short car tour around the city. The White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and the reflections over the water made the whole scene feel surreal. The perfect way to end the day and get ready for our flight back home tomorrow.
