Saturday morning started off pretty relaxed for all of us. There were no mandatory activities planned for today, which meant we could do whatever we wanted with our free time!
After a quick breakfast, some of our group headed to the Norfolk Premium Outlets. Finally we had some time to just stroll around, check out some stores, and get a feel for that American shopping vibe. We really enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere and just took a moment to relax and unwind.
And like always – shopping makes you hungry. So we headed to Chick-fil-A afterwards. For a lot of us, it was the first time. Verdict: super tasty!
Afterwards, we headed back to our accommodation to catch our breath and get changed, because a real highlight was coming up in the evening: the college football game between ODU (Old Dominion University) and the Liberty Flames (Liberty University, Lynchburg).
There were already some cool events before the game, such as the “Dirty Buffalo Wing Eating Contest.” or some Pre-Game-Sessions.
We had actually expected perfect football weather—but the weather clearly had other plans. Shortly before the game, heavy rain set in and simply refused to stop. But we didn’t let that discourage us: well equipped with ponchos and rain gear, we bravely persevered.
Soaking wet, but full of anticipation and energy, we watched the game with great enthusiasm. The atmosphere in the stadium was absolutely unique, despite – or perhaps because of – the constant rain. The fans weren’t deterred: they cheered, celebrated, and even danced!
The game consisted of four 15-minute quarters, with a longer break between the second and third quarters.
And the highlight of the evening: ODU secured a convincing 21-7 victory – an all-around successful evening that we won’t forget anytime soon!
What a great, exciting, and eventful day it was.
We are already very excited to see what the next few days will bring.
